
The Police Forensic Division provides a service to the public through the gathering of forensic evidence, the provision of a range of identification techniques, associated support services and the maintenance of related records. The following units provide an overview of the main frontline services with the Forensic Division.
Duties include the collection, analysis and distribution of evidence, major incident scene investigation, state-wide response and support, disaster victim identification, recording of evidence by video, photography, sketches and notes, specialised photographic tasks, and the presentation of evidence in court.
Duties include crime scene investigation (firearm related), firearm/ammunition identification, victim wound interpretation, maintenance of police firearm and ammunition library, firearm safety testing, police weapon maintenance, serial number restoration and evidence interpretation.
Duties include the collection, analysis and distribution of evidence, major incident scene investigation, state-wide response and support, disaster victim identification, recording of evidence by video, photography, sketches and notes, specialised photographic tasks, and the presentation of evidence in court.
Duties include identifying crime scene fingerprints and deceased people, processing major crime scenes for fingerprint evidence, fingerprint image enhancement, chemical fingerprint development, and the preparation and delivery of court evidence.
Duties include creating composite sketches, computer composites, photograph boards, maintaining offender photograph databases and image enhancement.
The Unit also provides Digital Electronic Evidence packages for court purposes which serve to recreate injuries and crime and crime scenes in a 3D image.
