Dogs are often described as "man's best friend" and the officers in the Dog Squad (K-9) can find plenty to support the famous saying.
The officers in this area work closely with their canine partners to provide operational support to other police units. This includes helping to track or apprehend offenders, detect and locate drugs, explosives detection and for general assistance.
Officers within the section learn the art of dog handling and take part in the ongoing training of their dogs.
A strong bond between an officer and their dog is essential to ensure they work well together. Dog handlers must be able to keep their allocated dog at their private home.
To work in this area, dog-handling experience is desirable, but not essential.
