For those who are completing the Associate Degree in
Criminology and Justice (policing) and wish to pursue
a career in policing with the WA Police.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be studying the Associate Degree in
Criminology and Justice (Policing) through ECU Joondalup
when applying.
How do I Apply?
Please confirm eligibility to become a Police Officer prior to applying to ECU, by contacting Police Recruiting Branch on 9301 9607, as acceptance to this course does not guarantee acceptance to the Police Academy.
You apply at the start of your third semester and go through the
selection process. Should you progress past selection you will be
placed in the first available school and your fourth semester is
undertaken at Joondalup Academy where you will complete the recruit
training course. To find out more, download the application criteria.
Selection Process
Once your application has been approved, you will need to go through the following selection process:
- An integrity check - a background check performed to identify any criminal offences and traffic infringements.
-
An Entrance Evaluation - to test your literacy and numeracy skills
as well as your practical intelligence. Sample questions and an answer sheet are available to help. Once you have completed the Sample questions
you can review your results.
-
Fitness Test - includes a beep test (shuttle run), push-pull machine to test
ability to crowd control and a sit-up in a specified manner.
Download the audio file beep test for your mp3 player. Measure
out 20 m placing markers at the start and end of this distance. Listen
to the audio file to start the beep test.
For more information download a Physical Evaluation.
Should you need assistance in preparing for the Physical Evaluation, you can download
a document containing general guidelines.
-
Attendance at a Realistic Job Preview (RJP): Applicants in the
metropolitan area are required to attend a Realistic Job Preview
to ensure all applicants have a true and realistic understanding
of the role of Police in the community and the many varied tasks
(both good and bad) they can expect to encounter during their service.
This is also an opportunity to bring along a partner or family member
so they can gain the same understandings.
-
A psychological evaluation - All applicants will be required to undergo
a standardised personality test comprised of a number of typed questions
as well as an interview with a psychologist.
-
A medical check - prior to final acceptance and after the completion
of the other assessments, the applicant is required to attend a
nominated medical physician and undergo a medical examination.
This examination is designed to ensure that fitness and health
are of a high standard and that there is no reason why the applicant
cannot carry out all the duties required as a police officer.
