Moving towards a new era

Western Australia Police is entering a new era with their introduction of Custody Officers, a new category of police employee, to the Perth Watch House.

The Perth Watch House is the primary holding facility for Western Australia, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The facility receives persons arrested within the Perth metro area, who have been refused bail, are unable to obtain surety bail and those arrested on warrant prior to appearing in Court. It is also a bail processing facility within the metro area for persons who are arrested and subsequently released on bail.

On an operations level, the Perth Watch House is divided into two sections. The first is prisoner management. The second is lockup administration.

Custody Officers at the Perth Watch House are primarily responsible for:

  • Staffing the facility
  • Coordination and provision of juvenile escorts
  • Transport of prisoners from metro lockups to the Perth Watch House

HOW DO I APPLY?

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?

The selection process to become a Custody Officer includes:

  • Integrity, Police Clearance, Working with Children Check (WA Police will undertake these checks on your behalf);
  • A Medical Examination by a GP;
  • A strength and agility test (eg sit up, grip test, weight lift etc);
  • A psychological screening and interview with psychologist;
  • Panel Interview
