In recent times the Western Australia Police (WAPOL) has undergone significant change, and with the change have come greater opportunities, more varied and interesting roles and exciting challenges.

WAPOL now provides a career that is likely to suit a broader range of people from the community, and in fact we are looking for a very diverse mix of people when recruiting.

It is significant that many people who inquire about a career in WAPOL find out that it is a vastly different career to what their original perceptions were. This website is designed to give you information about some of the many roles within WAPOL and the steps you need to take to become a police officer.

It gives you details about the qualifications and skills needed to be a successful applicant and the application process.

Applications now open for the 2008 Cadet Traineeship induction

Applications are now being called for from young people 16-18 years of age for the next Police Cadet Traineeship intake. Please note year 11 must be completed prior to Cadet Traineeship intake. For more information see the Police Cadets page.

International applicants

The Western Australia Police (WAPOL) will consider applications from countries other than Australia,however applicants must have Premanent Residency in place prior to submitting an application. Please refer to the Application Criteria page for more information.

Colour vision removed!

The requirement for suitable colour vision to join the WA Police has been removed.

People with colour vision impairment and those former applicants who did not comply with the colour vision standards are now encouraged to apply.

New Zealand applicants

New Zealand citizens do not need to have permanent residency status in Australia to apply to join the Western Australia Police. New Zealand citizens may follow the same procedures as Australian applicants.

Applicants Serving with Police Agencies within Australia

If you are a current serving or previous police officer from within Australia please read the changes for our Transitional Applicants.

Applicants serving with other Police agencies currently at the rank of Sergeant or above

The Western Australia Police now accepts applications for Superintendent and Inspector positions from suitably qualified external applicants. The positions are advertised on www.jobs.wa.gov.au on an infrequent basis. You will need to regularly check this site for vacancies. There is a minimum rank requirement of Sergeant for Inspector and Senior Sergeant for Superintendent positions.
